How's Business Monday, April 19, 2004
"T.G.I.M! Thank God It's Monday!" That's how Mayor Jim West starts the week on a positive note with employees at City Hall. Monday is the beginning of another workweek where each of us can make a difference in our businesses and in our community. Have a great Monday and a great week.
Curt's City Center Oil and Lube is a great example of a small, family business at its best. In the face of stiff competition from big national chains and auto dealers, Pat and Debbie McSpadden opened their auto service center at 210 East Sprague this February, offering lube, oil and filter services, system flushes, tire and battery service, as well as preventive maintenance. The business is named after son Curt, who works there detailing cars and boats. The business is also Spokane's only centrally located Penske Truck Rental Center. The phone number is 509-624-2090.
Located in the heart of the growing Davenport Arts District, The Catacombs Pub is a unique dining experience, not just in Spokane, but in the Pacific Northwest. This interesting restaurant and bar has been in business since October of 2002 in the lower level of the historic Montvale Hotel building at 1st and Monroe, which is being developed into an upscale hotel. The Catacombs is reminiscent of the old pubs and wine cellars of Europe with massive oak beams and basalt rock walls decorated with tapestries from Belgium. It's open for lunch, dinner, drinks and desserts, serving European cuisine, brick-oven pizzas, microbrews, wines and spirits. The phone number is 509-838-4610.
The next time you're having a conference, reception, meeting, party or fundraiser, invite Jan Smith. She runs Coffee Affair, an espresso catering service that comes to your location and serves coffee drinks of all kinds, as well as pastries and snacks from an elegant cart. They also serve iced coffee drinks, Jet Teas and Italian sodas. Coffee Affair is celebrating their first anniversary and Jan Smith reports her business is excellent. Coffee Affair's phone number is 509-999-1322 and the web address is www.coffeeaffairnorthwest.com.
Congratulations to Rich Hadley, president and CEO of the Spokane Regional Chamber of Commerce, who was recently honored with the U.S. Small Business Administration "Community Partnership Award." The award was given to Hadley and the Chamber for their support and promotion of small businesses.
The business thought of the week is from Teddy Roosevelt: "In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing."
